In 2016, I began transitioning from the Internet industry, where I helped pioneer the web for women in the early ‘90s, to the cannabis industry, where I began teaching women about the efficacy of cannabis for health and wellness.

That year, I started Her Canna Life to profile women in the cannabis industry.

In early 2017, I expanded my company to include Ellementa, women’s health company connecting women in cities across the country with cannabis experts and brands. Since then, Ellementa has grown to more than 55 cities across the U.S. and Canada and expanding launching soon in the United Kingdom.

Why focus on women? Marketers know that women tend to be the primary decision maker around healthcare purchases in the home. We are often in the position of caregiver, of children, our partners, our parents, even our circle of friends. A woman’s influence is powerful among her loved ones and circle of friends. But women are not the only ones who could benefit from cannabis.

As part of my continuing mission to bring better information about cannabis and CBD to more people, I recently wrote a book on the topic. “Cannabis and CBD for Health and Wellness: An Essential Guide for Using Nature’s Medicine to Relieve Stress, Anxiety, Chronic Pain, Inflammation, and More” is a guide to utilizing cannabis — including CBD and THC — to ease chronic and acute health issues such as pain, insomnia, inflammation, depression, anxiety, grief, and stress.

I’ve co-written this book with Dr. Junella Chin, who I learned about when she spoke at Ellementa NYC. We set out to dispel myths starting with covering the historical use of cannabis as medicine through the convoluted reasons it was made illegal. We also explain some of the science behind why cannabis affects us and how it interacts with our bodies and brains in positive ways.

My goal for my new book is to help people on their wellness journeys to find practical, sensible and safe ways to integrate cannabis into their lives. I hope we will continue to see a “cannabis renaissance” as more of us speak openly about our experiences with the plant for health and healing.
