The Alaska State Troopers have a reminder for customers of legal cannabis businesses: It is illegal to purchase marijuana with the intent to redistribute it to anyone under age 21.
The warning was attached to an April 4 news release that a 19-year-old man from North Pole was issued a citation for possessing marijuana. Troopers discovered the marijuana when they stopped the 19-year-old’s vehicle for speeding near Healy.
Troopers then learned the marijuana had been purchased by a person over age 21 at a licensed dispensary and then later distributed to two other people, including the 19-year-old.
“Charges will be forwarded against the other person/s identified and involved in the illegal redistribution of marijuana to persons under 21 years of age,” the trooper news release reads.
The trooper notice stated that buying cannabis to redistribute it someone under age 21 “could result in misdemeanor or felony level charges depending of the age of those involved and the amount distributed.”
